Mr. Tompkins


Mr. Aaron Tompkins is in his 11th year as Director of the AHS Cowboy Bands. He started his college education with an Associate of Arts Degree from Allen County Community College in Iola, Kansas. From there he went on to be a member of the Marching Jayhawks at the University of Kansas, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education under the direction of Internationally renowned directors and composers such as James Barnes and Robert E. Foster. Mr. Tompkins received his Masters Degree in Education at Kansas State University.    Mr. Tompkins was honored as the 2011-12 Outstanding High School Music Educator of the Year for the North Central Kansas District. Under his leadership, the AHS bands have become a competitive marching band, have a fine jazz band that meets as a class during the school day, have a symphonic band that has earned top honors at the state large ensemble festival, has an award winning pep band, and an indoor winter drumline that performs at basketball games and other miscellaneous events. Mr. Tompkins and wife, Atalie (whom he met while in middle school band in Topeka, Kansas), have two sons, ten-year-old Nathaniel and six-year-old, Joshua.
