Communications Curriculum Meeting
February 16, 2009

I. Presentations for Celebration Day
a. Will do by building level again. (K-1, 2-3, 4-5)
b. Explain how we are attempting to meet our goal.
c. We split into building groups to discuss what we will present for Celebration Day.
II. K-1 Discussion (8:15 – 9:00) – other building groups are doing the same
a. Went over everything that we discussed last year.
b. Mona, Janelle, LouAna, Maria, and Courtney – we will each take a five minute slot and talk about what we are doing in order to improve comprehension
c. We will start with Booster Kindergarten w/Mona – transition into kindergarten- then first grade, and end with Janelle with reading recovery.
1. Kindergarten Saxon and First Grade Saxon
2. Kindergarten and First Grade Guided Reading – Journaling, Goal Structure mapping, guided reading activities
d. Creating a Keynote with video
1. 15 minutes of movie total (5 minutes a piece)
2. Visual Phonics and Nursery Rhymes
III. K-1 Celebration of Learning Ideas – ask Denise about using video
a. First 3 minutes – excerpt from foreign language passage
b. Booster Kindergarten - 5 minutes – Visual phonics and Nursery Rhymes w/video
c. Kindergarten – Saxon on slide (beginning and end of year) – guided reading lesson (high and medium group) – journaling beginning and end of year
1. Explain my low group – heading toward services next year.
2. Show video of high and medium group
d. First grade – Saxon on slide (beginning and end)- video of Courtney doing Saxon – guided reading (Maria’s class doing guided reading lesson) – high/average group and below average class.
e. Reading Recovery and Title – show video w/Janelle
- Meet Thursday, March 5 @ 3:15 and/or 7:15
- Travis video Janelle’s class on Friday, February 20 right after lunch
- Mona one day next week?
IV. Reflection of what each level is doing for Celebration
a. K-1 building – using video in a Keynote presentation (see notes above)
b. 2-3 building – Keynote presentation w/list of what they will use. Pictures only, Centers, big book lessons, non-fiction, Class book that she sent off to have created – parents could purchase (www.studenttreasures.com)
- She will share website with us
- Tumble Books lesson
- Pictures of second grade days
c. 4-5 building – Power point presentation w/ 4 corner activity using text structure
VI. Curriculum notebook/website review
a. Review of curriculum maps and if they are current
b. Discussion about curriculum at each grade level
c. Discussion of our need to have complete notebooks for each grade level with standards
