Science Curriculum Meeting

Kristine distributed materials that she brought back from the national conference last spring in St. Louis.

Vocabulary – Kristine has the vocabulary list from each grade level but suggested that we use the MAPS vocabulary lists to revise our lists. The committee decided to use the concepts and processes lists from both goals of the MAP to cross-reference the lists already compiled.

Goal for 2007 –We will add 07-08 to the goals already written. The matrix should be our major focus this year.

New resources/pilot volunteers – From now until Christmas, it was suggested that we go out on the web and see what is available and then pilot next spring. Kathy and Mary volunteered to pilot new materials. Dan suggested that 5^th grade have a reference book, similar to the reference book used for Everyday Math. The concern is that we maintain the scientific experiments while exposing the students to more content. Kassi was curious about new materials available for primary grades. Smoky Hill also has science materials available.

Matrix – Kristine has a copy of the STC matrix to use to revise our matrix when we meet with all staff K-12. Mary wondered if we could have release time one afternoon to work on the matrix but Kristine pointed out that days were built into our inservice calendar this year so time shouldn’t be a problem.
