K-12 Counselors
Commendations:
*K-5 – counseling not
having to be an administrator
6-8 – bullying program
9-12 – KS career
pipeline – 8th graders do this at pre-enrollemtn, too.
Very good! Well organized.
*3 presenters kept my
attention. I learned what the counselors are doingat each level – class
meeting/guidance lessons. Elementary and midlle school counselors both use a
literature-based program – awesome! I liked how Gene Hartman showed the
career website . . . showed us lots of tools/aspects of the site. I like the
handout. . . helpful. Beemer was fun to see.
*Jeremy – understanding
of his role with students
Rex – personal
philosophy concerning bullying and how to address it
Gene and Sandy – how
they use Kansas Career Pipeline – not only for students but also for
adults, useful information as a parent also – great tool!
*Everyone shared interesting
information. I have class meetings on a regular basis. The related handout
helped me with focusing the meetings.
*Good explanation of
proactive process at elementary level. AMS Bullying Program – I agree
most kids are not bullies or targets – meetings sound interesting. Kids
have a lot of stress. Kansas Career Interesting – thanks for sites,
codes, and demo how to
*Good reflection on
counselors yesterday and today. Sharing about the therapy dog. Overview of
Alweus Program and focus on respect. Dispelling of some common myths, desire is
general respect. Great info on Career Pipeline. Good job. Enjoyed seeing the
Career Pipeline emphasis on work. Loved Beemer. Enjoyed learning about an
element of the education circle I seldom see.
*Well-organized, very
interesting learning what counselors do. Nice hands-on approach with the
computers. The hand outs on bullying were interesting.
*Counselors are more
proactive now! Good explanation. Good information on number of kids counseled
and how it is done! Bullying program @ AMS – class meetings – liked
sample. Kansas Career Pipeline – great resource!
*Learning about the therapy
dog.
Suggestions:
*Split the group – not
enough time
