USD #435 Wellness Policy

 

The Abilene School District would like to promote healthy schools by supporting wellness, good nutrition, and regular physical activity as a part of the total learning environment.  The District supports a healthy environment where children learn and participate in positive dietary and lifestyle practices.  We would like to offer suggestions on healthy choices for classroom parties, snacks, celebrations, and rewards.  The District Wellness Committee has put together a list of recommended food choices for parent convenience.

- Raw vegetable sticks/slices with low-fat dressing or yogurt dip

- Fresh fruit and 100% fruit juices, Non-carbonated fruit flavored water

- Dried fruits (raisins, banana,or apple chips, etc.)

- Trail Mix (dried fruits and nuts) - Plain popcorn

- Low-fat meats and cheese sandwiches

- Party mix (variety of cereals, nuts, pretzels, etc.)

- Low-sodium crackers

- Baked corn chips & fat-free potato chips with salsa and low-fat dips

- Low-fat muffins and granola bars

- Angel food and Sponge cakes

- Flavored yogurt & fruit parfaits

- Jello and low-fat pudding cups

- Low-fat ice creams, frozen yogurts, sherbets

- Low-fat and skim milk products

- Bottled water
